Open Classroom

This page was created to write down ideas about our open-classrooms next year...

August 7th (first staff day)
Analisa and Stephanie shared about their findings in Reggio. Real materials (barely any toys)

Teacher space
Items to be distributed (new- ordered)
tools space...art stuff, blocks?

Not centers...

April 5th

Adam joined the meeting today:  Discussed about up and coming meeting with parents in May. We need to think about how to explain to parents, our philosophy, how it works, are we confident?

-There are limits still, we scaffold the experience of using the classroom daily.

Information for parents:
-Example schedule (daily)
-Example room environment (design)
-How does a multi-age group work/germs?

Open concept for 3 years old together, open concept for 4 year olds together.

Analisa and Stephanie are joining the next parent info meeting - show their reggio presentation, video evidence.

How/when do we have time to discuss EC vs. Kinder?

Show them the reggio presentation?

March 29th
-Update about parents (concerns from them - idea was recently shared). Germs, 3 and 4 year olds together

What do you see when you imagine an open-classroom.
-Shelf dividers, open walk ways.
-Fabric hanging and lights
-Large unit areas

How are the projects going to work?
-Other students become involve in another class projects?
-Common areas vs. individual (classroom) areas.

Common - Atelier, light area, carpet (calendar area - movable), construction (organized by material?), drama (order a couch?), art area (4 areas)
Individual-Calendar, carpet

Storage
Cubbies for kids or no cubbies? - use them for storage
Use fabric to cover shelves

Lunch
How many rectangle tables?  Put in different clusters - a large table would be....not intimate.
Food table in the hallway?

March 15th
Last week discussion before conferences

-Entrance - office area (teacher desks - not in the classroom. Separate entrances for both EC3 and EC4.
-Lunch - tables (two sets of tables in the space) different lunch times (rotation) EC3, EC4
-Bathroom for storage.
